The August leak wave: six-star wanted levels, fuel, and looting

A build's worth of systems went public last month. None of it is confirmed, and all of it came from an unfinished version of the game.

Everything below is unconfirmed. It comes from an August 2026 wave of leaks attributed to an unfinished development build. Rockstar has not commented, and features in a work-in-progress build get cut all the time.

With that stated plainly, here is what the leaks describe:

  • A six-star wanted system, extending the ceiling by one star over previous games.
  • More advanced police behaviour, in line with the evidence-based wanted system Rockstar has shown officially.
  • Fuel and vehicle condition as tracked systems rather than cosmetic states.
  • Deeper car theft, matching the Slim Jim and window-smash choice visible in official footage.
  • Trunk weapon storage, which lines up with confirmed footage of larger weapons living in your vehicle.
  • Stamina and looting, both closer to Red Dead Redemption 2 than to GTA 5.

Why some of it is more believable than the rest

Several of these overlap with things Rockstar has already shown. Trunk storage and the car theft options are visible in the official Extended Look, so a leak describing them is confirming something rather than revealing it.

The six-star wanted level is the opposite: nothing official points at it, and a wanted ceiling is exactly the kind of number that changes late in balancing. Enjoy it as a rumour and nothing more.
