How big is the GTA 6 map? Rockstar says three times Red Dead 2

Leonida is roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's world, and Vice City alone is about twice Los Santos.

Rockstar has put numbers on the size of Leonida during preview sessions: the state is around three times the size of the Red Dead Redemption 2 map, and Vice City on its own is roughly twice the size of Los Santos.

That second figure is the more useful one. Los Santos is the densest city Rockstar has ever built, and doubling it means a city you navigate by district rather than by memorising one skyline.

The unofficial number

A measurement circulated on Reddit put the explorable land at roughly 83.2 km², which would make Leonida about 1.7 times GTA 5 and more than double Red Dead Redemption 2. Treat it as a fan estimate: Rockstar has never published a square-kilometre figure, and the multipliers people quote are not official.

The two sets of numbers do not agree with each other, which is a useful reminder of how much of the map conversation is inference.

Size is not the interesting part

Rockstar has described the world as grounded and reactive, with NPCs responding in real time. Confirmed landmarks include a large airport, a football stadium, an amphitheatre, a military base and a fully explorable zoo. A map is only as big as the number of places in it worth stopping at.
